They're the best of the best - as chosen by the WFPK audience! In December of 2007 we opened the Virtual Hall of Fame - artists whose music typifies the WFPK sound. And as you can see from the first inductees, it's a very diverse sound, one that crosses every genre boundary imaginable and is rooted in a deep love for local music.

Ryan Adams

David Ryan Adams, born November 5, 1974, is a prolific American alt-country/rock singer-songwriter from Jacksonville, North Carolina. Raised by his mother and grandmother, Adams dropped out of school at age 16 and performed with several local bands before moving to Raleigh and forming the band Whiskeytown. Three albums and five years later Adams went solo, releasing Heartbreaker in 2000. [Read more]

Patty Griffin
Year Inducted: 2007

Patty Griffin, born March 16, 1964, is an American singer-songwriter from Old Town, Maine, United States, next to the Penobscot Indian reservation. A&M Records signed Patty on the strength of her demo tape. Nile Rodgers produced her first studio album. That album was unreleased, and A&M instead released a stripped-down reworking of her demo tape, called Living with Ghosts. [Read more]

Tim Krekel

My Morning Jacket is an American rock band known for their reverb-heavy sound, their eclectic mix of indie rock, country rock, psychedelic, and jam band styles. The band's name comes from a discarded coat lead singer Jim James found while sifting through the remains of his favorite bar after it burned down. [Read more]

Wilco
Year Inducted: 2007

Wilco was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo following singer Jay Farrar's departure from that group. Wilco's lineup has changed frequently, with only singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt remaining from the original incarnation. [Read more]
