Marion was born in Louisville, KY but moved with her family to Jacksonville, FL at age ten. While there she discovered the two great loves of her life (beside her husband): music and history. “The music of the Beatles opened me up to a love of all forms of music, and my fascination with the band led me to research their history.”
Marion moved back to Louisville in the late 1980’s to attend the University of Louisville. A guitar player since age 6 and a songwriter since age 15, Marion met her bass playing husband John while they were members of the rock band Stop, Drop and Roll. Both continue to make beautiful music together and have performed in local bands More for Boris and Marion Dries and the Dissidents. The latter group released a self-engineered and produced CD in 2004 called “Change the View.”
Graduating from North Carolina State University with an MA in History, Marion and her husband moved back to Louisville in 2000. She was the music supervisor at the Gardiner Lane Hawley-Cooke until it closed in 2003. Marion started broadcasting in November 2004 when she joined the staff of Public Radio Partnership’s classical music station WUOL. Marion is now a host on WFPK weekdays from Noon till 3 and Saturdays from Noon till 4. When not on air, Marion is an avid bike rider and proud owner of a Shetland Sheepdog named after her favorite guitar: Gibson.
