Pink Bunny at Bonnaroo?

In our final report from the Bonnaroo Music and Art Festival in Manchester Tennessee we visit the main stage, meet some nice folks and follow the pink bunny down the rabbit hole.

Bonnaroo Day Two Video

We continue to explore the Bonnaroo experience and on day two Marion, takes a dip in the fountain, we see where young rock stars come from and we get a special performance by Sam Bush especially for Louisville.

Cubist Dreams and Radiohead

First off, what is it about Radiohead? Both times I’ve seen them I’m so emotionally overwhelmed that I can’t see any other shows.

But why? I’ve often thought, “Why do we go thru all the dust, heat & mud just to stand in a field and watch gigantic TV screens? Live music is about immersing yourself in the total experience, not watching TV.  Radiohead has solved this conundrum by breaking the the visual aspect of their show into frames. Frames everywhere, as in gigantic flat screens that moved and flowed like a living Cubist painting.   Scott Shuffitt’s awesome photo at left comes as close as anything I’ve seen in capturing this effect which forced the audience to give themselves over to the total show. They mixed the set up thoroughly, hitting several tracks off of their latest, King Of Limbs but also throwing in older “standards” like The Gloaming from Hail To The Thief and Idioteque from Kid A. A favorite moment happened when Thom York got us all clapping along to Everything In It’s Right Place.  Everything was in it’s right place, despite the usually cool temps.  I crawled into my sleeping bag and dreamed like Picasso for the rest of the night.

Bonnaroo Day One

The WFPK team checks in from Bonnaroo in Manchester Tennessee. Marion gives us a tour, Sean talks about Mariachi El Bronx, and, well, Charles (our producer) talks against his will!

Here we go ‘roo

Gonna make this fast because we keep dropping connections.  Ah, the joys of holding a festival in a cow pasture. The WFPK ‘roo crew split up and saw different shows last evening with the exception of Alabama Shakes – I think we all caught that awesome show.  Lead singer Brittany Howard was on fire!  She had the whole crowd singing along with her.  I also discovered a great funk band out of L.A. called Orgone (and yes, that’s really how they spell it).  Plan on hearing them soon on Afterlunch.

We’ll tell you all about what we’ve been up to this afternoon in the 2pm hour Live from Bonnaroo.  And here’s a photo of a lovely lady wearing coyote fur.  Why? Cause it’s Bonnaroo, that’s why!
